WOW!!!

Sailed in a classic Herrishoff design New York 40 built in 1905 today. We raced a reverse handicap in a fleet of 12 classic Herrishoff deigns. These boats are as beautiful to sail as they are to look at. A day of racing I will not soon forget. These magnificent boats still stir the heart as they must have a century ago.
I feel extremely fortunate to live in an area that allows sailors like me the opportunity to still sail and appreciate these wonderful and timeless vessels.

I have always wanted to sail on a tall ship. Maybe someday.

WOW

While I have always been a very competitive person, and would run over my mother on a dirt track back when I was racing, I have never had even the most remote desire to race a sail boat. For me sailing is about relaxing and taking it easy. But one of those beauties could make me change my opinion about racing a sail boat.

Racing sailboats is fun, but not relaxing like cruising. Nothing like going out on a sunny day with 12 knots of wind and sailing a reach with the autopilot on, nice music on the radio, and just stretching back and taking it easy

I absolutely agree. There are days for reachin' & relaxin' and there are others that are for great racin'. These are not mutually exclusive endeavors. Having done both I can say I enjoy both and one does not compete with the other.
We did have a photographer onboard for the race and I'll post some pics as soon as she gets them to me.

I think I would like to have the opportunity to race our boat. All the racing on our lake is one design with Stars, E-Scows, Thistles, a single-man catamaran class, and the small kids are in Optimists. Because we don't have much room, and my sailing often coincides with the weekend race schedule, it is a challenge just to stay out of the way at times. It seems like the rest of the cruisers (we have a lot of Catalinas, O'Days and a few Hunters and Macs in the 22' to 26' length) on our lake are not very interested in bouy racing.

Ed, Yep, that's her exactly. She's about 41' LOA with an LWL of 30'. Our boats name is "Nautilus". The guy who owns this boat also has a stable full of Shields, Melges 20's, Swedish Match 40's and a slew of others. He just opened in own yacht club on Friday night with a gala reception in Oyster Bay.
It' sure great rubbing elbows with the upper crust and then playing with their toys!!
