Hi Pat!
Do you miss Andover? That's a nice town and there's a lot of nice country side around there. I imagine that you used to fish for stripers. Two summers ago a guy caught a 30 pound tiger musky and they had a picture of it at Lee's Park. It was hard to believe a fish that size was pulled out of the lake. Bass tournaments fill up the parking lot at Lee's Park almost every other weekend.Pete, that was a good guess

, but wrong! We'll have to wait until the marina is ready to launch us and it is still to cold for us. Believe it or not, I was amazed to actually see a sail boat out today. You don't normally see anybody out right after the ice thaws except fishermen. The name Hopatcong comes from the Lenni-Lanape Indian tribe and it means lake of many coves. Suds, you are off just a little bit. Lake Hopatcong was a natural lake. In the early 1800's, they built the Morris Canal and to feed water to the canal, they dammed the Musconetcong River just downstream from the lake. It raised the water level by just 12 feet, but it added the whole south end at King's Cove and the Lake Forest section of the lake at the north end became connected to create a much larger lake in surface area. The whole main body of the original lake is just over 50 feet deep now. It is the largest lake by surface area, but Round Valley Reservoir is much larger by volume, since its dams (there are actually 3 dams) are over 100 feet high and the total depth is about 130 feet. There are no natural lakes in NJ that are even close in size. I don't know about man-made lakes in NY but I suspect that there are dammed lakes that are far larger in size. I think that lake up near Saratoga where the Hudson River is dammed is far larger.Scott, we'll be in the water about the same time you are if it warms up any time soon! I haven't had any thoughts of working on the boat, yet. It's been either too cold or too wet so far. The water is really high right now. We'll have to anchor together some time. We frequently anchor on the west side of Raccoon Island, or at our friends house on the west side of Halsey Island. We also anchor in that cove directly across from the Jefferson House.
