The Warrior Sailing Program has NOTHING to do with that Wounded Warrior outfit. The Warrior Sailing Program is the real deal, with real sailors delivering real team building training. Well worth your support and contribution.

I did not mean to imply that the Wounded Warrior peeps were involved with this. Just my choice of a title is all. Sorry for the confusion and obvious consternation....

I think for some people there is some sensitivity and angst surrounding the Wounded Warrior Project charity... It has been reported that the executives make in excess of $300K per year each, plus they built that multi million dollar headquarters building in Jacksonville. Attached is a news article from 2016 when the CEO was fired for lavish spending. Judging by those numbers it is amazing that the project still exists at all. Still, even using 60% of donations to fund actual programs for Vets is better than many national charities do. Today, the WWP is up to 73% (donations used in programs vs operating costs) but in the wake of the scandal they had a serious dip in donations and cut 15% of the workforce.

I went to the site for the Warrior Sailing Project yesterday. The program seemed to be fairly extensive, and the website was well conceived, and well executed. I signed up to be a volunteer (if they will have me).

The folks got back to me today. They already have the coaches they need for the next camp here in St. Petersburg on December 5. I am scheduled to help out with registration on the opening day, and have been invited to stick around to observe the first classroom session that morning. Seems to be a VERY organized group of folks. I will report back.

Can you not just take some guys out on the water for about an hour? Is that even feasible?

I could do that, for anyone that can get on the boat. I haven't recommissioned the boat from before Irma, but it will be usable again soon. However, taking folks for rides is one thing, teaching them to sail is another, and that's what this program does. A camp is 3 days long, with multiple classroom and on-water sessions. They even cover racing, and do some racing on day 3.

Volunteering seems like a logical place to start. Once I know more about the program, I can approach my club to see if we can provide additional resources.
