The chain repair thing is just a flashy front.
Their real business is a boat salvage company.
Reminds me of the boat owner who is standing with the yard manager, the boat having just been hauled. Owner says, " I wish I knew how tall the mast is". The manager, spotting some easy cash, said, "well, we can take it off, lay it on the ground, and measure it". The owner, not being a total fool, says, " I don't want to know how LONG it is, I want to know how TALL it is".
If the boat owner was also a navigator he would have been able to measure the mast with triangulation.

Maybe he could push a repaired chain up the mast, then measure the chain?
