Works been CRAZY...

My startup company's product is ready for prime time, and in the last month my life has gotten CRAZY. Skype and GotoMeeting calls all around the world at every hour. I think the longest I've slept in the last month has been 5 hours.

So today I had a window in the late afternoon and I scrammed and headed for the lake. Just me but even better. Solo sailed to the end of Minnetona and back, maybe 14 miles. Three beers and a lot of great music later, and I'm totally ready for my call with India later at 12:30AM.

Which reminds me... Everyone POST MORE SAILING TOPICS. 95% of the topics lately have been about fixing broken old crap. Let's SAIL!!! Talk about sailing! Anyone else feel the same?

Do you need photographs of your product? I could come up and help you with that and then we could sail when the work is done.

See how I worked sailing into the sales pitch?

Alright Jack, a couple clips into this video, we were flying a code 0 and a 110% jib. I think it was hurting more than helping. The wind was variable and we couldn't get a solid read on speed difference with or without the jib. What do you think about trying to use a 110% as a staysail with an asymmetrical?
And what is the difference between DNC and DNS in the same race?
And I know, since then, I've thought of a dozen different ways I could have fixed the mainsail and kept racing.

I feel your pain. Best I got was driveway sailing. This weekend, I've had offers to crew, and I thought I might splash the little boat, and step my mast on the bigger boat to get measurements for a new main, buuuuuut, then I found my network guy wants to be in the office all weekend running new cabling for some real wi-fi access points, instead of SOHO crap. So, guess who doesn't get to play with boats this weekend :(

I'll watch the vid later... Love your camera work!

In general, boats only fly their headsails with their flying sails (asyms, gens, codes) if they are PLANING. Otherwise the apparent wind direction is to far aft and you take them down.

Re DNS and DNC, you have to read your SIs, but often a DNF scores a point better than a DNC. The general idea is to reward trying and coming to race.

DFL beats
DNF which beats
DNC

Our SI have DNF score finishers +1 and DNC starters +1. That can be a huge difference!

A moderate breeze day under jib and main, all beating or close reaching. So the video is kinda boring. But makes nice snaps. Love soloing.

This is from last night -my first sail this year and first Wed PM for the boat & crew. A one boat dash across the harbor and back. A steady and cold 15kt breeze. There are very few boats in the water. Most boats on the hard still have shrink wrap on them. It's almost May!

My boat is in the water and was hoping for some maiden sailing this weekend....however the mother nature stopped cooperating and now the forecast calls for rain and only +10C over the weekend. Will stay the night on the boat, however :)

As soon as I get off work this afternoon we'll be heading out for our first sail of the season. I hope to be soloing a lot but the lake is too small for anything other than my dinghy.

Not recent, but I try to get out on my birthday, January 2, every year to start the season (?). This is heading out this year.. mid 50's and not much wind.. a fine day for a boat ride and a couple of celebratory hot rum toddies. The gulls are lined up on the seawall ..

Great idea Kermit only I had to sell my Hobie Cat to make room for my Macgregor.

When we were dating the Admiral suggested sailing. Right then I knew she was a keeper only my idea of sailing was hiking out over the side of skiff skimming across the water as fast as she could fly. Her idea of sailing was champaign on the deck of a 50 foot yacht. Needless to say we both had to compromise a little.

Nothing wrong with dingy sailing. in fact I think they make you a lot better sailer. We enjoy our Capri on the smaller lakes as well  . even bought a new set of sails for ours last month (oem shown)

I totally agree. In fact, our dinghy is my favorite boat to sail and I hope to get a new sail for her soon. The thing is, I've put soooo much work into our 26 footer that I'd really like to use it.

Speaking of solo sailing, here's a solo tack from yesterday.Tiller boats like this really are set up for soloing; the whole tack takes 30 seconds, the actual tack runs only 15.
