Wooden spreaders.

Anyone have these bronze hoops on the ends of their spreaders? I'm restoring my spreaders and wonder how these were padded and what works well. You can see one bronze hoop removed. It's been suggested leather might work better.



These were a mass of rigging tape applied over decades. The tape resembled the growth rings of a tree as I cut them off.



The spreaders, after stripping varnish, are good and sound.



Still too cold to work outside on the boat, inside work only...

Ready to go back to work. Most holes and plugs are where spreader lights and wires attach. The rest are battle scars of 50+ years.
