Does anyone know if the O'Day 20's used a wood core in the deck? I have a 1974 that seems to be solid fiberglass based on what I've seen from removing a few deck fittings. Seems too good to be true as most sailboats I've worked on have some kind of balsa/plywood core in the deck. (which usually has some water damage on older boats) Maybe the smaller O'Days just used all fiberglass?? Thanks!

according to my 240 manual, the deck is hand laminated and balsa cored, In high stress areas, the balsa core has been replaced w/ either a plywood core, aluminum sheet, or solid fiberglass.

I have just had to replace the core of the foredeck of my Oday 23. It was such a mess that I ended up cutting the foredeck off, scraping out all the old balsa and replacing with Kleggacell epoxied in place. See attachement for the balsa and another message for the replacement. I am glad that I did it, it has worked out very well, but was hard work.

second phot attached. I know it looks ugly, but believe me it was worth while. If the damage is small, you could always drill holes and inject epoxy into the affected area, once the core is dry. The attached is for the 'extreme makeover' when the damage is extensive.
