won't start

My engine was recently worked on by Yanmar experienced mech. New Water pump, new water excahanger, new small pulley, fresh oil and filter, replace and
Engine mount and realinged engine and drive. and vesel is only 51/2 years old. Motero did start the same day mechanic finshed work about 3 days ago.

Went to start yesterdat and only get the buzzer and when fully turning on the gas gas goes to empty and no power. The battery amp remains at 12.5 even when trying to crank.
I cleaned the battery posts well and bled the fuel filter. to no avail.? Can you help?

Trying to diagnose engine problems via the internet is always difficult but there is one rule - diesels fail to start because of either no air or no fuel. Did you also bleed the high pressure side?

I would suggest trying to bleed engine again. I assume that you have a 3GM? You need to be sure that you have fuel at the engine secondary fuel filter and no leaks.

I does not appear that you should even need to bleed the fuel system considering your mechanic did not do anything that would justify needing to bleed the system.

It may be just a coincidence and you may have something else going on. If you bled the engine, maybe you should be replacing the banjo washers too?

I'm with Don on this. It is difficult to determine what may be going on from the message.

I have had this problem when changing filters too. If you turn off the raw water intake you can bleed the engine much quicker using the starter to pump fuel. It does not take much engine cracking to bleed off the air.

Electrical Problem

I don't believe you have a problem with fuel/filter/bleeding air from lines on your Yanmar. If all you get is the buzzer when you try to start, it has to be electrical. If it was a fuel problem, the engine would still turn over when you try to start it but would not fireup. I suggest that you get the Yanmar "expert" back to solve your problem.

Sounds like the starter is not engaging due to the starter solenoid not having enough voltage/current to engage.
Try this:
Locate the electrical connectors from the helm (probably 2 or 3 connectors with multiple wires each down near the engine starter pigtail) and pull them apart and reconnect them. Then remove the "S" terminal from the starter solenoid (the small wire near the big ones) and reconnect it. If this "fixes" the problem then you have the same problem all hunter owners have with corroded engine electrical connectors. There are several permanent solutions. I prefer to just cut out the connectors all together and solder and heat shrink the wires.

There are something like 11 connections from the battery to the helm to the engine and back to the battery that the current has to traverse to get the starter solenoid to work. A small amount of corrosion on all/any of them can drop the voltage available at the solenoid to the point where it just does not operate.

Sounds like a battery problem. If the engine is not turning over i would look at the batterys or connections. take one of the batterys and have it tested it might not have enough cranking amps. You could take your car battery and jump it to the starter. try to isolate the problem.

If you have a 3YM20/30, you probably have a loose wire, that came off its connection during the servicing. Facing the engine, look for a white wire under starboard side for the cable bundle.

Yes it sounds like an electrical problem battery or wiring.

Almost definitely electrical. Or could be both but need more information about exactly what happens when the start button/key is pressed/turned. If you can hear a faint cllicking sound then refer to Bill's post after insuring the battery(s) are good.
