Greetings, I am curious: I have a pair of friends; a married couple. In what I suspect is a rare twist, SHE is the long-time sailor and HE is the beginner, taking lessons, baby-stepping. How many women out there are like my friends? How many women are "going along with their significant other?" How many have "brought their men" into the sport? Women boat owners? Like I said, just curious. Richard

There was one...

About a year and a half ago a woman posted on one of the forums here that she divorced her first husband because he didn't like sailing. She didn't say she was kidding, or add a smiley. There is a Macgregor 25 in the slip next to me. The 20-something girl bought the boat from her dad this summer. We only crossed paths briefly all season so I haven't had a chance to talk with her much. When I've seen her out sailing she always has a crew of at least 4 guys on board. Maybe she figured a sailboat was a guy-magnet. ...RickM...

Lots of women sailors in central Florida

Around here we got cruising skippers, delivery captains, charterboat skippers, serious racing skippers and crew (performance dinghies, cats and keelboats), sailing instructors, race committee officers and regatta organizers. Almost all of them own boats and several own more than one. They are a great bunch. Come to think of it, my first two sailing instructors (the first was 24 years ago) were women too!
