Hunter 45 Legend Holland
Doing a major update on our 1987 Legend 45 after encountering a major under the water boulder near the southern tip of the UP of Michigan, 1/2 mile off shore in 18ft of water last year cruising along at 8 knots. Boat and crew survived but it did quite a bit of damage aft of the keel inside. Were guessing it pushed the floorboards up almost 2" . Had the hull infrared and very little structure damage. "the two surveys gave a lot of credit to Hunter for building that bilge area so strong solid glass up to 4" thick in places. " But this gives me a great opportunity to update the boat. Most of the structure repair is now completed and were starting with the new up grades like moving the battery charger closer to the battery's and moving an an additional pair for the refrigerators. Which is why I started this post. Okay I'll attach a few Pict's of the damage. The one picture is with the house batteries back in place after blowing loose and ejecting from the cabinet. The bar on the floor is usually from the floor to the cabin ceiling but after being bent and compressed it left it's location.

For the life of me I can't see or understand how they got the alternator charging loop back to the Batteries. I hardly believe that they feed back on the charger post. but that's the only thing I find feeding back to the batteries unless they did it someplace in the control panel, any input would be gladly accepted.

I think that this is /was common practice. My O’Day 322 from the same era is set up exactly that way.

Must have been a scary day on the water! Glad everyone and the boat survived.

I believe a typical setup has a heavy gauge wire running from the starter to the positive terminal of a battery then a jumper from the alternator to the terminal on the starter as well. This way you're using the same wire to supply the batteries with electricity and provide electricity to the starter depending on what you're doing at the moment.

Now that you say that, that makes sense. Thanks
