Hi All, I am a new owner of a Hunter 31 (1985) and need to run some cables. Is there a document that describes the wire raceways or the best methods for running wire? I want to run a cable from the Navigation station to a GPS antenna on the aft rail. Thank You, Jim R.

Uh Oh

It's a Hunter. No proper wiring raceway on that vessel. Take the ceiling off the aft cabin and get creative with some cable ties

Baloney!

We have an '87 31' and have run lots of new wires. To the pedestal (GPS, power), to the Yanmar control panel (oil pressure and water temp gauges), to the rear lazaret (speakers, power), to the transom (radio antenna). With a fish tape you can send any wire, anywhere in the stern from the port lazaret. Only problem is keeping my weight off enough to continue to escape from the lazaret when I'm done. (The Admiral is svelt enough but refuses to work in the lazaret) Yeh, for $100K or so you can get wire runs and a few other goodies. 31 foot Hunters are just as much fun and a whole lot cheaper. We cut up an old chunk of garden hose and made our own runs. (They don't show) We got oriented by following the stern light wire to see how it got around the water tank under the rear berth. It's pretty open under there once you start looking around. Good luck.

Thanks

Thanks for the replies. Have a fish tape and plenty of wire ties, heading to the boat in the morning. Rip, I would be very interested in a description on how you ran power to the pedestal. Want to run a cig plug receptor to that area also. Thanks, Jim R.

Power to pedestal

Nothing complex. I had a leg up because I had instruments on the pedestal already. I took off the campass and disconnected one of the wires to my wind speed indicator. I dropped it down with a fish wire attached. Attached a power lead (and some other wires I was installing) to the fish wire and pulled the whole mess back up. I used plastic spiral wrap from the top to hold the wires together and keep them away from the steering cables (and protect from chafe). Please let me know if you have any specific questions. rip@edmundson.com - I assume you have looked at the base of the pedestal from under the cover in the rear cabin. Mine already had access holes for cables and wires.
