Wiring problem

The mast light wire that comes through the coach roof broke today. Unfortunately, it broke at the point where it exits the roof. Question, does anyone have any suggestions for repairing or replacing this. I have not been able to determine where the path for the wire is. I was hoping I could pull a little bit of what's left up through the roof, but no dice. After 25 years I guess it became brittle and just gave it up. Help!Steve

The protective coating on the same wire on my 1983 is shot and I plan to replace it soon when I rewire the mast and change the mast head/deck light. The wire appears to run between the inner and outer skins of the cabin. CVP

LarryI was thinking that maybe the wires did just as you described and are on top of the bulkhead. I don't have any desire to remove my bulkhead at the moment but I am curious to know if they were laying atop the bulkhead. Some thought they were sandwiched between the skin and core of the cabin top. My 23 is a 1980 and has had some leaking at the chainplate which has led to some rot at the very bottom of the panel. So far the area were the chainplate attaches is sound. I removed both and saw no evidence of moisture or rot. Just bugs me that I can't get to the wire. How long did it take to remove the port bulkhead? Steve

Got Lucky

I have been following this thread with horror for I too had to replace the through hull fitting. I headed the advice given by all your past expereiances and carefully drilled the old fitting into dust thus exposing the wires. This left me just enough room to attach the new fitting. I slipped some shrink tube over the stubs for the insulation was not in the greatest shape. I tinned the wire ends, coated with dielectric compound and reassembled with the replacement fitting. As I screwed it back to the deck I coated everything with a healthy dose of silicone. Definately a one time repair; however it should last for many years to come. I may have had a fraction more wire than some of you; I do not know. Good luck to all of you and as allways thanks for the advice and shared experiances.
