I have been reading that the standard wiring harness on the Catalina 30 should be upgraded. Has anyone done this job? Where did you purchase the new harness?

Maybe just the engine harness

I have a 1987 C30 Mk11. The surveyer told me the engine harness should be replaced. The main problem is a 6 pin connector that can give trouble at the wrong time. Mine already had the connector removed and is now hard wired. After I bought the boat, I found a new harness in the bottom of a locker (It is still in the original bag). Looks like a catalina part. You could try Catalina Direct. I am not near to the boat for a few days but I can get you the number if needed. Oh yes. the engine I have is a Universal 23 Hp Diesel. As for the remaining harness it does the job. If I had more time I would upgrade the panel and start rewiring. Looks like a big job and I have others ahead on my list. Fair Winds

Just discussed this last week

Do an archive search on wiring harness. Try this: http://archives.sailboatowners.com/pviewarch.htm?fno=20&sku=2005324114936.92&id=366379&ptl=#2005325085349.26 Unless the wiring is hard wired AT BOTH ENDS, you have a potential problem with the engine starting all by itself! Plus, if you still have the ammeter, with a diesel, you're sending the current to heat the glow plugs all the way to the cockpit panel.
