Has anyone opened the wiring channel on the mast of a hunter 37c? Gene Gruender of Rainbow Dancer tell me he was able to access the entire wiring channel of the mast to replace wiring several years ago. I'm interested in hearing of others who have done this, to gauge the difficulty and pitfalls of doing so. I hope to replace some wiring, and add some for a masthead wind speed/direction unit. Thanks?

Nobody?

I was hoping for a reply to your question, Jack. I'd like to know, too.

From the outside?

I, too, was awaiting an answer in hopes that it would clear up the question. Are you suggesting there is some external access? I have not had the Kenyon mast off of my H37C so am no help. But I thought the wiring ran inside some time of internal extrusion to protect it from the halyards. Surely Gene(Rainbow Chaser) knows.

mast wiring

OK Last year I pulled my mast to replace the standing rigging (79 vintage) and while the mast was out I pulled the plastic incert out and then pulled the incert that the main track is on and there is all the wiring.... Sorry but you must pull your mast to do this... but every 20 years or so everyone needs to replace standing rigging.. good luck tom

the answer!

Gene Gruender was right. We had the mast out of the boat, removed the gooseneck, and then, with some tugging and tapping, slid out the cover that you see on the aft side of the mast while in the saloon, then the entire sail track (two piece, one long one and then a considerably shorter one) slid out, exposing the wiring channel. A relative piece of cake, compared to trying to fish a line through. When replacing, be sure to thoroughly clean the channel and scrape away any paint gobs on the track sides.
