Wire to rope line identification

With our O'Day 25 (1976) came a matched pair of wire to rope lines. I haven't a clue as to their purpose. The 3/32" wire portion is 7'-10" long and the 3/8" rope portion is 5'-10" long. The wire is too long for a useful centerboard pendant in my opinion. The rigging on the boat all seems straight forward without any particular "bells or whistles". I'd sure appreciate some help on this one as they are too nicely made up to just throw out. Thanks much.

The combination doesn't appear to have been shortened. The free end of the wire has a crimped eye and the free end of the line is seized. Still a puzzlement!
