Hunter 44AC Marina Del Rey
I am looking for anyone who has removed the hood over the companionway on the newer Hunters. I wish to install a knot meter next to the am/fm over the plexiglass hatch and wonder how easy it is going to be to add wires down to the nav station from on top. I have noticed that Hunter has conveniently left pull strings in various locations for future installations and hope I will find on up there. I believe this location is common on some commissionings. In fact, possibly this can be accomplished by simply removing the radio from the front and reaching inside however I have not seen an obvious means of pulling out the radio body.

I have

I just removed mine this month to have some cracking repaired. It was easily done and the instruments that I did have were labeled and have bags placed over them now. I'll be putting it back on in about a week and will let you know how it goes. This is for a 1994, 29.5.

Not the question

that I was planning on asking but here goes... Has anyone ever removed and re-installed the head liner or a portion thereof ? This was the one move I was not prepared to take on as the potential for damage or a sloppy re-install is huge.

Need a special tool...

Hey Lynn, as said before, the marina did the work on my 2005 44ac. The fella doing the work said it required a special tool that he had to get from Hunter. You may want to talk to them prior to doing any additional work. From what I understand, it was not a fun job.

How about

It sounds like a real hard job to do what you want. Only asking you what's up with the helm having instruments. I have the knot and dept at the top of the companion way and find it to be a problem when have people in the cockpit blocking me seeing them when I need them the most,I can get the dept on my chartplotter but wish I had the dept on a separate instrument and been thinking of adding one at the helm. everything is at the helm

I grabbed an st60 knotmeter off ebay and thought it would be nice for the sail trimmers to see instant feedback when we race in the cruiser series.

need an upholstery tool

Lyn, Hunter may recommend something different but you can use any rounded flat blade to retuck the soft headliner-I used an upholstery tool-looks like a thick putty knife with rounded corners, but you can go to any auto store and get a similar tool cheap that's used to tuck auto upholstery.
