winterize

I am assuming youe have a diesel inboard? as I have on my Oday 30 which I haul out here in Maine in October and splash in May. When I haul I do the following. First If you have an owners manual for your boat and engine I would consult the pages dedicated to winterizing your particular boat. If you don't have the manual you can probably get one fairly easily from the manufacturer. I check my impeller and replace if necessary and add some vasoline to aid in first start up. I fill my fuel tank and add stabilizer. Either fill all the way or empty all the way. Otherwise condensation can occur. Fill your transmision for the same reason. You may have to remove some fluid in the spring to bring down to proper level. I change my oil and filter now . Old deisel oil left to set can act like acid. Remove the water intake hose from the through hull fitting and place in a 5 gallon bucket of non-tox antifreeze and run the engine until pink comes out the exhaust. Cap the hose, I used a screwdriver as a plug. Check your antifreeze at the radiator cap for proper temp.for your area. Dump non tox antifreeze into your holding tank if not emptied as well as the head and lines inbetween. Dont forget the water system as well. Remove batteries and store inside. Dry out the bilge and cover the boat well. add some water absorbant containers below and move cushions inside to a dry place. I dont know how cold it gets at night in the carolinas. I can only advise for my latitude/longitude. Your owners manual is best source. Good luck

Sorry We did not make down to see you on Sunday. We planned all week to meet you, however, we were not able to complete our work Sunday as early as we had planned. Hope the invitation will still be open this week. Looking forward to meeting a neighbor.
