Advice plus achieves

I'm sure that the archieves have endless articles on this, but some things to watch: 1. make sure that you mix your engine antifreeze for optomal protection - straight antifreeze doesn't protect as well as a 50-50 mixture. 2. discounnect your hot water tank and pump the water out of that, and then antifreeze into it. 3. connect the in and out hoses to the hot water heater together and pump all the water out of water tank. Then put a couple of gallons run potable (pink) antifreeze into the tank. Then run the pink through each of the faucets, one at a time. Don't forget the cockpit shower if you have one, or the shower in the head if there is one there. 4. run antifreeze through the bilge pump and hoses, manual and electric, and leave a little pin in the bilge in case you take on water over the winter 5. antifreeze in the head and holding tank. Check the Head lady for advice on the type for this. Be sure and pump some through your macerator if you have one. 6. Engine - with the mixed engine antifreeze, a neat trick is to use a toilet plunger attached to a hose . . . shove the plunger against the intake for the engine, the hose in the antifreeze. Run the engine until antifreeze runs out of the exhaust. If you want to start some controvery, look up the articles on using pink in this system rather than engine antifreeze . . . . <grin> 7. Consider taking some tension off shrouds, forestay, backstay. 8. Consider covering all through hulls to prevent bugs, wasps, etc., from nesting over the winter. 9. And lastly, after considering doing all that, reconsider and move south . . . . and sail all winter. <grin>
