Messenger lines...
Brian's got it, messenger lines run to remove/re-run halyards. Make sure you have plenty of length per messenger, 'cause I know from personal experience that it stinks to come up a few feet short!I tag the halyards by function, p/s location and designated clutch upon removal, if only to make it easier to direct the Spring Prep Crew (ie - "here, run these halyards where they're 'spozed to go"). The Flemish Eyes woven into the tails make installation in the Spring a breeze, requiring only a simple knot (pick your favorite) to couple the halyard to the messenger. Well worth the effort to eliminate the exposure of 4-5 months harsh conditions to the halyards.Flemish Eyes? I had Steve @ the North Avenue WM (Chicago) do mine last winter; 3 halyards, the topping lift and the boom vang, the latter an extravagance, but makes it much easier to feed through the clutch. Good luck with your effort. Take care.
