I winterized my 1979 Hunter 30 this week and was surprised how much water moves throught the raw water cooling system on my little Yanmar YSM12. I disconnected the water inlet line and placed it in a bucket. I fed 3 gallons of -60F and lastly 1 gallon of -100F through the Yanmar. It seemed to move about a gallon through the bucket every 90 seconds or so. Just surprised me how fast the water is pumped through these engines.

I do it with two gallons

With my YSM12, I remove the inlet hose to the water pumpat the raw water filter, hold it up and attach a funnel. Fill the funnel with 100' anti-freeze, start the motor and pour. It takes about 1 1/2 gallons before you see the anti-freeze coming out the discharge at the stern. I then shut down the engine, remove funnel and place thumb over hose and re-connect. I also fog the engine. I have done this way for six years. I also open the top on the raw water filter when the boat goes on the hard.
