Hi,

I am a new owner of a 270 and this is my first time winterising it. I was wondering... I put some antifreeze into the shower sump, but I am not sure where it would discharge. Is there some sump pump that pushes the water from the sump up above the waterline? Does it discharge into the bilge? I never used the shower yet, so I have no clue how it works. I'd rather ask a question than find some hidden pump split by the freeze-up.

thanks

I don't know your boat specifically but if I were in your shoes, I would dump some antifreeze down the shower sump. You should be able to tell whether it ends up in the keel or not. If not, there is probably a pump hidden away somewhere.

I had a similar issue last year (first winter with the new boat) and dumped some antifreeze down the shower drain. I could clearly hear it going into the bilge. When I checked the bilde after I could see the antifreeze in the bilge as it had previously been empty.

Hope this helps a bit.

Given that sailboats sink when they fill with water, every owner has a duty to understand ALL of the plumbing on his boat. This would be an excellent time to trace lines and learn what all of the through-hulls do. Your boat could be different from the same model built the next day, so learn for yourself.

Someday you will find yourself out in the ocean, if just coastal, with water in the bilge and you'll be glad you know how to track it down with certainty.
