Wintering in the Keys

Any info about sailing and staying in the Marathon Key area for the winter would be great.

First of all, Marathon is a city on Vaca Key (mostly). Next, there are 3,853 marina's in the marathon area and a huge anchorage/mooring field that is now mostly city operated. I'd suggest making reservations now before the yankee snow birds migrate south. As for which marine is better, cheaper or whatever, call the Monroe County Chamber of Commerce. They usually have names of places that aren't in the crusing guides.

There are plenty of places to anchor, pick up a mooring, or plug in at a marina, starting in key largo on down. I would pick up a cruising guide. Marine patol has been checking on Head discharge, so be prepared.Faro Blanco (marathon) on bay side is pretty nice, but not cheap.take a look at Islamarada, (plantation yacht harbor) & big pine key.What do you draw?
