Winter "to do" lists -- an accounting

As I prepare to spend ten days on the boat starting tomorrow, I went back and refreshed my "to do" list to see what had been done, and what remains, and what new needs to be done on "Good News." 18 months ago my "to do list" was 45 items long. of those, 22 were accomplished. But somehow my current list has 38 items on it. I think I am gaining on it, but very slowly. My lists, incidentally, include routine maintenance items (it is time for an oil change and to check the battery levels. for example). Among the major items done by me or the boatyard, were: replaced throttle cable; replaced shift cable and installed extended lever; replaced battery charger; rebuilt four of six winches; purchased and installed lazy jacks; cut access hatch to starboard side of engine; removed extra sails and gear from boat (store at home); shocked and flushed water tanks; had rigging tuned; revarnished about 2/3 of brightwork; replaced oil sensor and gauge; replaced all three sails (with spares); found a good wet suit at a flea market, and so forth. Big jobs coming up include buying and installing a windlass, and replacing my old Avon redcrest dinghy. But the really good news is that after ten days on the boat in the next two weeks, I leave again to crew for a friend in Mexico and we will be in the Sea of Cortez for around two weeks. You gotta sail sometimes.... Check the link for a lovely recent day on San Francisco Bay. Cheers, Sanders

Day on the Bay.

Thanks Sanders, those are great pictures. Now be honest, how many days in 365 are like that on the bay? And what's with the heavy jackets? It was 86 here today. Your list is shorter than mine and I am starting my sixth season! You must work faster or pay someone else. Probably both. Oh, I neglected to tell you that I am in Houston. It snowed on Lake Erie again today. :)
