So how's the storm by you. We haven't got the snow promised -yet. But the wind is impressive. Sailflow has gusts near here at 5o kts. and sustained wind 30 kts. Nothing going on outside belies that. They are also showing wind directions in NJ of North and maybe a little bit west. Is this storm moving faster than predicted or is act II on the way?

Is the lake frozen? Does it freeze over? If not how far out does it normally freeze?
Friends in the Syacurse (sic) area tell me a lot of the water in the lake is now residing in their yards.

Started here about 2 hours ago. So far winds in the 20s but forecast to increase to the 40s early Monday morning. Was at the beach walking the dog a few minutes ago and the waves are building. They are calling for 20ft. Waves near shore possible.

Hoping the cover and extra lines hold up. Work already canceled for tomorrow so we can concentrate on protecting the boat throughout the overnight and tomorrow.

Barometer down to 29.3" here in NYC right now. Approx. 8" of snow accumulated already. High winds causing lots of drifting snow. Forecast is for about 12 more hours of snowfall.
I expect we will get 1' - 2' of snow before we see the sun again.
It is not a fit night out for man or beast.

Still light on the snow here. Plenty of wind - I've heard things go bump outside I'm not familiar with. I hope my boat is weathering this OK. The grill cover is gone.

For us in harford County it is the winter storm that wasn't. we have less than an inch. Over on the coast they have close to a foot. A hundred miles makes a big difference.

Lots of wind!

I finally covered the boat just last weekend, in the nick of time. Wind blew most of the snow off the cover. This seems to be coastal. We have less than a foot but have up to 2 feet just south and east, where I work. I took my time getting into work and the roads are empty ... no problem driving!

How's it going up in Maine, Tim? The weather here noted the storm is still going there.
We only had about 6 inches of snow. But the wind has been strong. Steady 25 to 30 with frequent gusts of 50.

We are still in it. The snow has pretty much ended but the wind continues. It is not as bad as this afternoon when we got some gusts in the upper 40s. The shrinkwrap cover makes a lot of noise when the wind hits it broadside which is how the NW gusts are hitting us right now. I predict a fairly restless night. Last night I woke up at about 1.5 hour intervals to check on things.

I am in NYC and we got hit pretty hard. Had 20-22 inches of snow and 50+ mph winds. Now it's around midnight on the 27th and still the street is not plowed. Can't wait to get out of here and back to Maryland. Maybe Wednesday? Please send dogsled team.

Looking at the marine data buoys out in the Gulf of Maine they were showing 40 knots of wind and a 30' sea yesterday (16 second frequency).

Conditions in Hull, Mass.

My wife and I drove down to the Hull Gut yesterday to see how it looked. This is a very narrow channel that gets some nasty current moving threw it during normal weather. It is inside of some of the outer islands for Boston harbor and was fairly protected from the direction of the storm. Waves in the gut appeared to be 6-8 feet.

Over at Nantasket beach the waves appeared to be 12-15 feet.

Nasty weather, I wouldn't want to be sailing our old boat (C&C 24) in any of it.

Back in Florida

It was too cold on Long Island for us any way and we made all the rounds with our 5 sons 2 in Ct. and 2 in LI.
Did XMAS even with family and my MOM on LI and trying to decide on Xmas day whether or not to make the drive down to Florida or wait out the storm and be stuck and cold for a few dys more,we left early sunday morning and made it to Florida monday 6 am.
The roads were great no snow to really worry about just a few places with ice on the bridges but we did OK,tractor trailer had the whole north bound stopped for ever in NC and we kept driving all night with out any problems.
I called our sons and LI had 12'' and no work but had a snow blower clean drive way CT. had 6'' and went to work,we glad we left when we did.

I was skiing at Stowe vermont on Monday in the middle of it. 40 knot winds steady, only about 3 inches of snow. Whiteout conditions with only 1 lift running. Greenville, NC had about 10 inches. That is a total disaster down there, enough to be a state of emergency and shut down the economy for about a week. No salt sand or plows so it just freezes solid on the roads. Quite interesting to see people try to drive. Of course the sun in the days and the warmer weather melts it pretty quick. No report from my buddies in Beaufort, I'd guess a few inches the warmer water will melt it all fast it is usually about 10 degree warmer in the winter than inland.
