New boat owner question. Do you relieve tension on the rigging over the winter? The boat is on the hard.

I never have in 6 winters. Theory being, metal contracts in winter therefore self-loosening.

And...... Welcome Aboard :D

Not done here and not on any of the boats that are here either. Congrats on the new boat!

Your shrouds (steel) will contract less than the mast (aluminum) causing them to loosen naturally. Further loosening them manually will cause the rig to be unstable.

What manual did you read that. I did not see it in my '05 Hunter manual.

From the Selden manual. The B&R rig does not have a backstay, therefore standing rigging is at the chainplates.

Decrease the tension of your lateral rigging slightly just to
ease off the load on the hull. No part of the standing rigging
should be slack. Slack rigging will create substantial wear
during the winter.

When you have trimmed a B & R rig, you must document the
setting of the rigging screws very carefully. Alternatively, store
the mast for the winter with the spreaders mounted and the inter
mediate

shrouds and reverse diagonals in tune.
