Live aboard? oh yeah!!
Hi Bill, We Live aboard, winter sucks just just a bit when the cold sets in as it has the past week or so. I think the high has been in the 20's for about a week now. Nights have been single digits. We heat with lpg and electric. We can make it uncomfortably warm though if we want. We divised a really nice frame for the boat out of pvc, we hang a door then have her shrink wrapped. Green house by day, dry and out of the weather during the night. Our marina has 6 liveaboard boats this year, down from 10 last winter. The marina has ice eaters though not in place. We usually get no more than skim ice. Our cover makes us look a bit like a covered wagon. We have enough height to walk around on deck. Downside is the added windage. A good south east blow can send us running to a motel with our foul weather gear tucked between our legs. All in all, we love it and just keep telling ourselves "SUMMER IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER!!!".Our Marina Keeps the heads, showers and laundry open for us. Water usage becomes an issue. It takes more than a few garden hoses to get the water from the laundry room down on to the docks and then to your boat. Usually we fill each others tanks on the best of days. The onboard head is for critical moments only if you get my drift. A full 20 gal holding tank poses some real issues.Well, I've been rambling for a while and you haven't said a word. Oh, one last thing, we live on our Chris Craft Appache 37. Yes, Chris Craft did make sailboats. Some Mighty fine ones I might add. She goes on the Market in April, we plan to list her in Soundings. When She sells, We plan on buying a H40.Write back sometime Bill,Don't forget, SUMMER IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER!!!!Paul and Valery
