Check Your Insurance Before You Do

The standard policy doesn't cover the winter months for boats in the water. :)

Winter in NYC

Hi Guy, On those years when I must check my bottom, I am not in the water. This is about every 3 years or so. During the winter months, in NY harbor, it can get nasty cold on the water. In the lower bay, East of the VZ bridge, that's all I have to contend with. Up in your neck of the woods, you have to watch for river ice, water taxis, the ferry, barges, tankers and cruise ships...not to mention the other die hard sailors from Jersey. Unless you plan on sailing alot in your area, you might want to consider my neck of the woods. It would take ou about 45 minutes by subway, or 20 minutes by car, but it is definately more enjoyable and there's so much more variety of areas. Happy Sailing.
