If you guys are bored and want to have some fun, you should check out this web site. http://www.sailonline.org

It is a sailing simulator that has real time winds. We just started the VOR leg 5 from China to Rio. Something like 13000nm

Hey Jim~

I've been sailing over there for over a year. It is so much fun! I have also met many people that I now sail with in real life. It is amazing how they simulate real sailing conditions. See you out on the Pacific.

Years ago I used to play an online shoot 'em up game called Planetside. Was great fun, played with a good group of guys (and a few gals), most were from England (I lived in Germany at the time). After a few years of knowing these people online, we decided to all get together. One guy and his brave girlfriend decided to host it in England. My wife and I made the trip and when clearing immigration I was asked what the purpose of my visit was... I said "to meet friends"... the officer asked where I knew them from... "umm... an online game", I said... he looked at me funny and said, "the internet?", which got me a strange look from the nice looking woman in the line next to me... then the office asked "what are your friends names?"... I was not prepared at all for this kind of questioning and was a bit embarrassed, especially when I couldn't remember their real names, only their online shooter gaming names . Now, that was embarrassing.

Once I cleared the airport though, we had a great time, everyone was a little nervous since we really only knew each other by voice and it was odd to put faces to each other, but once we shared a few pints and everyone loosened up, we had a wonderful weekend! Imagine being an immigration officer and asking someone their friends names that they were going to visit in your country and the reply being "umm... their real names?"

Embarrassing

Unfortunately, not all of us live in areas that you can sail year round. I spent many hours on dreaming of being out there sailing. I read all the magazines and surfed the net to get my sailing fix. I then stubled onto sailonline.org with the help from a fellow SBO member. I find nothing embarrassing about sailing in the virtual world. It is amazing how realistic it is. I have brought many navigational skills learned there and applied them to real sailing. I can say this is a tool that that is available to all that will help you understand weather forecasting and boat positioning.
I am not affiliated and have no financial gain to this sailing simulater. I just want to help others out there who want to get their sailing fix.

OK guys... keep it on the up and even side. This is a family oriented site. Go to the war room if you want to swap jabs.
