For those of us that only get to use our boats 5 or 6 months of the year and have to endure the winter storage cycle, what is your recomendation on storage? I have Dacron sails and I am interested what effect the lower temperatures have on a six month lay up.

Sail Storage

No matter where you live, before storing sails, make sure they are clean and dry before folding and storing for any length of time. Any moisture within the sail folds can eventually result in mildew formation. Cold will not hurt Dacron sails, however the spring thaw and the increase in humidity may result in mildew. Whenever possible, store your sails in a warm dry climate, such as your basement or garage. Many northern Sailmakers also offer winter sail storage for a nominal fee.
