Finished my winter project. We now have two new water tanks and one new fuel tank. Boat is back together for the first time since Oct. As easy as it is to replace tanks on this boat, it still took awhile for various reasons. The old tanks had their original stickers on them and I could order by part #. I added two pickups on the fuel tank for a polishing system..The engine pickup shoulda had at least a half pipe of air in it. Ran the engine over an hr and it never even coughed.....I was waiting for it to die and then have to bleed it. Strange....Now for the spring projects......

Congrats . I still have to get m water tank out. Any tips or dealing with the foam they used?

Hmm... no foam in the 36'. All structural blocking/bracing. The dinette settee (30 gal) was strapped in with stainless steel straps. The two water tanks are under settees and the fuel tank is under quarter berth...I have no idea how the bow tank is configured. It's a 40 gal holding tank for this boat and I hope to never have to get into it......

dig it out ..thats what i had to do ...i cut as much as i could with a saw then used a chipping hammer to dig it out along with a shop vac and still had to do some prying to get it out ....it will prep you for a good nights sleep....good luck......

I thought about trying a cheap flexible serrated knife. I am a bit leary about power tools after fixing the hole I poked through with my sawzall blade.

Bob, I replaced the fresh water tank in my 8.5 and the worst part was that foam. Put on your miners cap and grab a pick and start singing "hi oh, hi oh, it's off to work I go"
There is NO truly efficient ready made tank that fits, I had one made to order food grade from stainless. Very nice and went from 37 gallons to 45 and gained some usable stowage space in the bargain. You can engineer mounts that allow for easy removal too if you like.

replacement tanks

I am perhaps screwing the next owner, but I am not a tankage nut. The 12 gallon fuel tank I put in instead of the 18 is far more practical. Even if I replace the tank and all the lines, within a few years the water system will only be suitable for showering and dishwashing. I bought a 12 gallon bladder tank from another member that I think will be about my speed. I am unlikely to do more than overnight. I am unlikely to shower aboard (no hot water system) when I can use the clubs showers.

The only tank I would like to maximize is the holding tank. That damned thing filled up in a weekend with a couple of guest just one night. As I have previously stated, I will decommission my macerator, simplify my head plumbing and try to bump my holding tank up to 16 or so gallons.

Maybe the next guy will be bent over it or not buy my boat because I shorted all the tanks, but oh well.
