Winter Officially sucks

Here on the southern shore of Lake Ontario we are getting a late Indian Summer with temps in the 60's for the next three days. I will get Trav'ler winterized and covered this week. I also hate winter. I have a condo for January in Naples, Florida. I am hoping that will take the edge of the winter. I am ok with December and can live through March, but Jan and Feb are the killers for me.

Winterizing??? What's that???

Now you know why I put up with the 12 million people in the Greater Los Angeles Area, all of whom seem to be in front on me on the freeway every day. Outside of dodging a few rainstorms here and there, we go year round.

am in nova scotia. and the end of my 1st sailing season, so much i want to do to the boat now that i have used it, but the dreaded snow is making it a race. we should set up some sort of vacation trade offs and have southern people come up to sail with us in the summer and we visit them in winter to have a little sailing fun

I Can't Figure It Out

It has always puzzled me why anyone would live north of I-10 but I absolutely cannot fathom living above 49 degrees north.

We have other sports like skiing that we need to take time off of sailing for...

I can't imagine living and sailing anywhere other than Maine/Canadian Maritimes or the PNW including Vancouver and Alaska.... We get to live and sail where most people only dream of getting to..

Not a house or structure in sight in this "crowded anchorage"..

Joan is thankfull for winter

Otherwise I would never get around to doing all the household chores that need to be done. The Honey-Do list has been growing all summer long. Rick Webb you really know how to hurt us!!:naughty: Have they fixed the road between Navarre and Pensacola Beach, Yet?

Lots and lots of anchorages we can get to that have few if any cottages / houses on shore and often very few boats.

My honeydo list miles long. Our house is starting to look like a bomb, but we've had a fun summer.

Now I just have to convince my wife she actually likes skiing. Gotta hand it to her tho, she started skiing at 43 and has stuck it out just to be out with the family.

A recent boating use poll done by I believe Boatus , shows again the Northeast having the most boating use . And this is done with 6 months of sailing weather . I can attest that on any given day on Salem Sound dozens of boats are in use . Even this weekend I saw several boats . And your right on having to catch up on the house work . It seems that each fall I finally get around to those chores . Yes winter is long ,but with sites like this it helps to dream of warmer days ,and projects to do . So the count down is on .Absents makes the sails seem better !

For those that cant imagine living north of the Mason Dixon Line

My opinion: No one mentioned summer sailing in Sunny Florida. Ive been there guess what there is none. Its so hot you cant breathe and there is no wind. Florida is ok for the winter only. I do not relish the thought of getting cooked alive or constantly living in air conditioning. Thats why there are more sailors in northern climates. Ill take New england best sailing in the USA

Hey first time sailor here and raising the sails and seeing them fill up has been unbelievably satisfying. I don't care where I am sailing (But I do love Buzzards Bay / Vineyard Sound).

We Northeasterners have a short season if we're landlocked with a daysailer. OK, there's stuff to do in the winter, but go out into the cold deliberately? Brrrr! After the season ends here there's lots of stuff to do on house and grounds unless you can afford a landscaper or have a pack of eager kids to help. But the boat usually comes first to prepare for winter. After a few years of ownership on each boat that I've owned most modifications are already done and only upkeep is needed to prepare for the coming season. I plan to relocate in the south on retirement and worry about heat instead of slipping on the ice! I've already sailed in Florida in the summer and still would prefer it to shoveling snow!

Sounds to me like the winner is neither us northerners or the southerners. It's either too cold to sail or too hot. The only winners here are those paying the SoCal real estate prices I wish I could afford.
