Took off the winter cover last night. It is nice to see the boat open again. We did some cabin top polishing this year after removing the teak eyebrow and handrails. See before and after photos below. Please excuse all the black wool fur on the deck.

Heading to Freeport Thursday evening for a short haul to do some bottom maintenance, install a new prop and speed/depth/temp transducer.

Hi Tim,
If I remember right, you sailed late last year also. Always good to get the boat running again. Did you hand polish the deck because it looks good? You pick a good week to uncover with the weather warming up all week. I'd be curious to see what the bottom looks like if you snap a few pics when you haul. Have fun.

Read your blog and got my answers, thanks.

We were lucky here on the Chesapeake - winter never came. My boat returns to its natural environment in about 3 hours from now! This kid is ready to be sailing again...

Ditto in Montreal

It does feel great. The cover came off last Saturday and, in keeping with tradition, it promptly rained and snowed on the outskirts of town.

Launch will be on the first weekend in May. Until then, I have to finish the installation of the new larger holding tank, replace cockpit drain hoses, wax & polish, put on the new name, start on the woodwork.................... (Still better than working around the house <GRIN>)

Matt

Time spent skiing, snowshoeing, mountain biking and occasionally working on boat projects.

Gotta have our seasons. When we push off, we have little desire to do the caribbean.

Tim, this is the first year since I was 14 that I didn't bother to ski even once. This was the most pathetic winter I've ever seen. One of my son reports that Utah had the worst winter in memory with regard to consistent snowpack, according to locals who have been there a long time. They had meager snow and weather patterns made the meager snowpack way more dangerous than a normal winter would be. It's not good when the slides take the snow right off the bare ground. There were some treacherous slides this year due to the unstable freeze-thaw cylces.

I agree Scott. Skiing was mediocre this year in Maine from what I heard. We only skied Vermont for a week this year and relied on average packed powder conditions. In fact, we mountain biked just about every weekend here. Which was awesome considering I bought a new bike the week after Thanksgiving and our final sail for the season.

Alaska was the place to before snow this winter. After all we were spoiled last year.

Was out in my buddy's Stiletto catamaran Monday and Tuesday.. We got a humility lesson Monday afternoon late when the 10 knot southeast went to 25 gusting to 40 from the west as the squall line came in. we almost got the canvas off fast enough..Two things stood out.. the warmth of the water and the boat behaving so well in really nasty confused short high chop. Not much more overnight sailing in that thing because it will be too hot to be confined to the hull.. Nope, not too cold ..

It's kinda like when the oranges freeze on the trees. Just longer colder and darker. ...and no, skiing does not make up for it.
