I guess there is no use in me complaining about our low winter tides.

HEY! I can see water in those pictures!

These guys are ice fishing on the closest dock to me. There are tire tracks on the ice.

Allan...

Interesting pics of Owens Landing. NE River looks almost the same last weekend, but I wouldn't want to try ice skating...:)

I have to admit, those pics are of freshwater lakes. The nearest ocean is over 750 miles away. The Great Salt Lake does not freeze.

I have noticed that the days are getting longer, but I have not been in the game long enough to know when my lakes will be sailable.

springs arrival

I see you guys on the Chesapeake are counting the days till spring. The first day of spring and the first spring are not the same in New England. Mar 21 is still pretty much considered winter

When does the ice go out on the rivers in Marblehead? My son in Champlain NY says spring is when the ice goes out on the lake and he can go fishing.

Ross:
Winter up here is followed by Mud Season (what some of you might call Spring), which is then followed by Road Construction Season.

Ice is usually out of the rivers north of Boston 2nd to 3rd week of March depending on how cold the winter has been. As far as sailing on the ocean or any of the bays around here that time of year forget it. Its much too cold. Some early birds put their boats Apr 15 but their is not much activity until 5/15

Lower Chesapeake is a lot different than just a little ways up north. I've been tempted to go out for a short sail now and then, but the air is cool enough to keep me from it. Last couple of years I remember a day here or there around the 70's in the middle of winter, but this year either they aren't happening, or are happening on workdays. One more month to go, February is by far my most dreaded month.
