Boy, this site has it all
I would think Florida's intercoastal would be a ball. It's not nearly as tropical in the winter as you might think. Cool, dry air with temperatures in the 60's or 70's. The protected waters of the intercoastal offer marinas{year round}with lots of towns to visit. You could see Florida from Coast to Coast. It would cost a few bucks but what doesn't. Try the library for a few travel guides.Funny thing is.. I am visiting a town that others had recomended from this site. I don't think it would fit your winter plans but we are traveling this summer to a small town with a large lake {75 miles}at the foot hills of the Appalachians Mountains. The town was talked about on this site, inexpensive and not to far from home. 600 miles, no airports, we are driving to it to take in some scenery. From toilet repair to vacation spots, you can ask it here!Good luck, Jack
