I am getting ready to buy an Oday 22. In the summer, we have good water and a dock. In the winter, they let the lake down and we have mud. Does anyone have advise about a lift for an Oday 22 - drop down centerboard.

Thanks,
Mark P.

Mark,
I really don't know what you mean about a lift for an O'Day 22 keel/centerboard. As long as the centerboard is all the way up into the keel slot, you can put the full weight of the boat on the keel with no problem and support the hull with sailboat stands. You should also be able to support the hull with the keel suspended in the air.

Mark: I keep my O'Day222 (retractable centerboard) on a vertical- style boat lift in the summer. Lift has a keel rest and four side bunk supports (two bunks on each side of keel rest). I also have 2x6 boards (with carpet covering) at approximately rub rail height to aid with centering boat on lift and to protect hull during launch and "re-entry" . I use the same placement for the keel rest and side supports on the lift and the trailer. My lift has a 4,000 pound capacity (boat weight is 2200 pounds).

I suspect your 22 could be kept on a lift. I recommend a vertical style. A cantilever lift may work too- but I don't have any experience with cantilever style lifts for sailboats. Whichever -style, set up the lift so the side bunk supports and keel support placement aligns with where boat would be supported if it were on trailer. Make sure lift capacity is appropriate for weight of boat, mast, sails et al, plus gear, motor, beer, food, incidentals, and at least weight of one person (at least one person will be aboard while boat in on lift - at least occaisionally- to adjust storage covers, retrieve something, or adjust something).
