I suggest you avoid canvas because it's way too heavy. A typical blue plastic tarp is way too thin. The best alternative I've found is Too-Tuff plastic out of New Jersey. It takes one small tarp to cover the bow from the mast forward, and a larger one from the mast to the stern. I cut a new set every spring and it lasts all year.
