Winning one for us old farts....

Last weekend WYC held our big J/24 U-gotta regatta.... made even bigger because this year it was an automatic qualifier for the 2018 J/24 Worlds... the winner gets a bid. So boats from all over the midwest showed up.

When the smoke cleared, the clear winner was OZ and my buddy Bill Allen, another old goat, 40 years in the J/24, and gold medalist (with Buddy Melges!) in the Soling in the 1972 Olympics. We had a long chat afterwards, and he said the biggest joy this year was having his granddaughter on the boat for 4 races this year. Passing the torch. And still kicking butt!!

I'm hoping the unhappy one in the picture is the great grand daughter. I remember racing against Bill in my J24 years back in the 80's. A particular mark rounding protest comes to mind. More young people in the sport, yahoo. The only way we will ever keep up with our mates from down under.

Jackdaw, As my grandmother would have said, we are just 29 and holding. Anything else, she would bop you over the head. So we are just youngins. Thank you for sharing with us that photo.

Yes she is... A bit unhappy because she had a photo opportunity sitting in the trophy. Everyone thought it was cute but I’m not sure she thought it was !
