not ususally

Usually if I see a boat I don't think of racing them, unless the crew seems to be looking for a race. If they seem to think they are hot, I will give them a try just to see how my (single handed) skills stacks up to a racing crew. Racing is a great way to learn how to sail fast. Crusing is a great way to learn why to go sailing. Winning is fun, but just getting to go sailing is enough of a reason to do it. - John

what my Father Taught Me

Amoungst all the things I learned at my fathers knee was something he was taught by his father and his father was taught by his. I have since passed this same on to my son and my daughter as there is no denying it. One boat on the water is a pleasent day's sail, two is a race!

What my daughter taught me.

Back when we were drag racing my daughter drove as she was by far the best of any of us. I would kid her about "Who's second?" on the way home. None of us would remember. The one night I asked my standard "who was second" she replied, "the first loser". Ray
