I am looking for some owners opinions on their experience with floating-off wing keel boats such as an o'day 240..Is this asking too much for a boat this size? Is a trailer extension an absolute must?..I am considering buying an O'day 240 with the hopes of an occasional trailer trip...thanx

I would imagine its doable!

I'm not really familiar with this particular boat. i don't know the draft, but, i would imagine the deciding factor would be the length and depth of the ramp. i know of a couple of ramps that if you draw anything more than 3' you'll drop off the end before it floats off. i know of a couple people that have the extendable tongues on their trailers and they are launching capri 25's. I've seen people that have gotten the wheels of their trailer off the end and had such a sudden dropoff that it was a bitch getting the trailer back up on the ramp. s/v Que Pasa?

EZ Launching!

I have a trailer for my 240 and launching it is a breeze. My trailer has a basic tongue extender (7 feet). Back her and off she floats. If you would like pictures of my trailer/extender or measurements for the bunks, let me know. Ron ~~~~_/)

Launching

Hi I'm assuming that MKE is Milwaukee. We sail a 25 Oday .Earlier this spring we launched it on Kentucky Lake and it went beautiful. When I launched it at South Shore I got the rudder caught under the transom and cracked it. THe launch ramp depth was the differance. I made a tongue extension that could be used on just about anyones boat.I maybe willing to loan it to you and help you build one.I will be pulling my boat out this fall using McKinley if the ramp measures deeper. I wouldn't let the launching of it stop me from buying a boat I really liked.
