I bought an Oday 240and love it. When I purchased it , the tiller had a tiller tamer by 5the name of Windpilot made in Canada. It works on a single cam lever and is very easy to use. No screw handles or ropes just a single cam lever. My question is : I am keeping the 240 and I have just purchased an Oday 272.I can,t find on the web any product like this. Windpilot is on the web , but it is an auto pilot unit. Can anybudy help me find this small but very usefull tiller tamer type product.

More options

I also have the Davis Tiller Tamer. Best $25 gadget on the market. I remember that there were other options available although I can't recall them exactly. One website advertised a brass unit that was similar to the one you used to have. It was made in Canada or England and cost a lot.

Here's the tiller lock, john

Here's another Canadian tiller control: the Tillerlock. It's just what john's describing, but from a different manufacturer. (Or maybe they changed its name due to confusion with the autopilot?) It's a simple cam, operated by a lever. You just flip the lever foreward to lock the tiller; backward to release it. Much simpler than the Davis Tiller Tamer, and looks like it will be more durable (all-metal construction) - I've seen a few comments on this site about TTs breaking. Costs about $33 US. I have one of these, have been using it for five or six years on two different boats. I love it. I can't imagine why West and the other marine stores don't carry this: it's a wonderful device. Right now, you have to mail order it from the site linked below. The only reservation someone might have: it has no intermediate (friction) setting between locked and unlocked. I've seen some people posting that they want this. Personally, it's not an issue for me: I've never wanted to 'slow' the tiller, only to have it locked in place (for example when raising sails) or running free.
