windows

Thanks to whoever has figured out a way to stop the spam which was
getting out of hand.

I have leaky windows in my Vega. I've seen the replacement kit at
the VAGB website and wanted some "testimonials" from some people who
might have installed them before I consider ordering them.

Does anyone have experience, good or bad, with the replacement
windows?

Hi Phil;
I didn't install these replacement windows, but about two
years ago I cut some Plexiglass to size (from Home Depot),
drilled a hole about every 3 inches, and screwed it on the
outside. No leakage any more! And cost me less than 100
bucks.

Group,

Speaking of replacing windows: Has anyone replaced them with opening
ones, or am I nuts even to consider it?

thanks,

Jody

Hello: I replaced all the rubber on my windows, and ended up supplying
rubber (at cost) to a few others with older Vegas. I still have enough rubber
for one Vega which I'd be glad to sell to someone who needs it. It only fits
earlier Vegas - I sold some to a guy with a hull number in the 3000's and it
didn't fit - He returned it and that's why I have what I have. All the others
were similar age as mine. Contact me off-group if you're interested.

I've replaced my windows with the alumium ones, they look very nice, can
stand a big breaker and don't leak. The Dutch and English groups supply
them.
The job needs careful planning and took me three days.
Have a look at the excellent Dutch site www.albinvega.nl.

A Merry X-mas to all of you

Hi

As the supplier of the windows I must say I think they are great! Totally biased but true. I read the Anne Miller book "Out of the Blue" and saw the "Berserk" video and they both had the same problem that the original windows ere punched in by a wave. This is because the glass is smaller than the actual hole but with the aluminium frame it would have to push the whole frame in which is not possible.

You can still obtain rubber for the Series I and II Vegas but I have been unable to get any rubber profile for the Series III for the last two years. I know we have a Vega owner in the USA who is screaming out for a rubber gasket set.

Plexiglass is certainly an answer that is an easy, leakproof and cost effective solution but I dont think the finished product would be as nice on the eye! Not getting at you Wilhelm!

The windows can be fitted in a day but take your time and do a couple of the small ones first so you get the idea of how they fit. In Holland Arend Schram can supply and fit the windows and his work is first class.

Hope this helps. If anyone would like any more details then please email me at:

I've been watching my neighbor do that on his Alberg 29. It's big job but the results look good. The opening ports he used are standard items from West Marine. After removing the old windows, similar to the ones on the Vega, he filled the holes with plywood, glassed in, then cut new holes for the new windows and painted. Lots of sanding and filling of course.

I am planning on replacing my windows with the aliminum frame kit as presented on the
Vega club pages. Does anyone know if that will make the windows safe to breaking waves
or is it necessary to apply "stormhatches" in rough seas?

How do I access the parts page and at what address for replacing my Vega
window/portlights. Is it possible to join the sight online with a credit card?
