Hi, I am ready to replace the original port windows with the Lewmar Ocean series and upon removing the first original window I noticed that there are four screws from the inside screwed right into the inner wall. They appear to be holding in place an internal support frame made of plywood that is sandwiched between the inner and outer walls. Before I start cutting the bigger hole for the new windows I have a couple of questions: Is the entire side wall cored like this or just around the windows as it appears? If it just a frame to avoid squeezing the inner and outer walls together upon tightening the window, it seems to me that I need to insert a new frame that fits around the new hole right between the inner and outer wall. I'll appreciate your comments. Thank you all very much Ed

Planning to replace ports also

I am thinking about replacing the ports on our 31 also. I have been looking at the Newfound Metals ports. Not familiar with the Lewmar. What led you to them? Have you investigated other brands? Could you post a photo of the hole with the frame removed? I would love to see the sandwich of fiberglass and filler. Thanks, Rip Edmundson

The cabin sides are plywood. You may find some wet, rotten or missing wood (I did). Seal the edges with epoxy before you install the new ones

Windows Replacement for H31

Thank you all for the information especially clarifying that indeed it is all plywood and yes I am missing some around the window which has rotten over time. I guess I'll feel around with a screwdriver see if I can find solid wood and if it is not too much I'll fill it with epoxy or pehaps with urethane foam and an epoxy ream. Newfound Metals makes very fine windows but they are expensive. Lewmar makes several which are reasonably priced and yu can buy them through Sailnet at good prices. Thank you Ed
