I would like the correct way to re-do the caulking around the windows in my 1989 C-30. It looks like the windows have a gasket behind the window. The reason I am considering this, is a leak has occurred inside the lip of one of the window frames. I am in the process of using moretite rope caulk to see if I can find the source of the leak. I used the hose all around this area with no luck to make the leak, it only occurs during rains. Any ideas are appreciated. Regards, Anita

Catalina Direct

Anita, I've got a few leaks on my '77 C-30 that I'm going to be fixing over the winter. Check out Catalina Direct. They make replacement window seals (which you'll probably need) and I'm sure they'd be happy to answer your questions. window leaks

I had water leaks around my cat 30 windows. I contacted Catalina's tech department and Dave G (sorry I can't remember his last name) faxed me a great sheet on renewing the caulking around the outside window, between the glass and the frame. I was ready to pull out all my windows etc etc, however in following Dave's instructions I found the water was leaking between the glass and the aluminum frame on the outside. removing all the old caulking and replacing it with new has cured all my leaks. Thanks to Catalina , that is why I have owned three of them !!

Temporary Fix

One of the problems with this job is that the best time to do the repair is when things are dry. A temporary fix is to seal the crack between the window and the frame with a little waterproof grease using your finger. It just might hold until the weather dries up a bit.

Apparently the 3 responses below this dont know the difference between a MKI and a MKII C30, as the windows you are talking about have no frames. A very easy, effective fix is to use butyl tape. That may be what is in there already if you say it looks like a gasket. It should be real easy to remove the old and reapply new stuff. You can get it at an RV supply store. It comes on a roll with paper backing. Consider joining Sailnet's C30 email list for help like this and other tips and tricks for caring for your C30.
