I believe the glass is 4mm thick. If I recall correctly, this info came via Steve Birch.

4 mm is correct. There is an alternative to using the original rubber seal system, in the form of a new extruded aluminum frame and 5mm glass.

I did the job using rubber last spring. Use lots of soapy water and lots of silicone spray! Nicholas H. Walsh P.A.

So, are the larger windows in the saloon windows or port lights? In any event, any tips on where to find new seals for them? Also, has anyone changed out the four smaller ones for opening port lights? New Found Metals has some that are pretty close to the same size that look really nice, but they're a bit pricy. Any other brands I should be looking at?

There's been a lot of chatter on the forum about this. There seem to be two types of stock window installations:

* Earlier Vegas (Series I and II, I think): one that is slightly smaller than the hole in the cabin side, thats fits flush with the fiberglass. This type could be pushed into the cabin by a good sized wave.

* Later Vegas (Series III, I think): One that is slightly larger than the hole, and fits over the top of the fiberglass. This type would resist being pushed in, and IMHO is superior to the older style.

I have no idea at what hull number the change was made, but I suspect yours are the earlier style.

Apparently Steve has replacement seals for the original windows - see message #15757 in this group. He also has the much more sturdy replacement windows. If you plan to go off-shore for any length of time, you should probably consider the latter.
I got some replacement seals from someone who didn't need them, so for me replacing the seals was the much cheaper solution. However, apart from the danger that the windows can be pushed in, I should also tell you that replacing the seals on the little windows (in the fore cabin) is a b*$#%! I managed, after what seemed like hours of fighting, to replace them on ONE of the small windows - and then gave up for the remaining three. Who knows when I'll get the courage back up to finish the job... ;-)
(The problem is that the thick seal material keeps jumping out of the groove, especially around the very tight bends at the ends of the window).

Thanks Sebastian. I chatted with Steve already. I got the double bow anchor roller from him and didn't realize that he handled the spares for the Great Britain club and had the windows also. Love the bow roller by the way. It was a bear to get the nuts on the bolts in those tight quarters of the anchor locker, but at least I had the inside of the bow tore out so I could somewhat fit in there. I'm 6'2" and 200 lbs. so me and small spaces don't always get along. Thanks also for the tip on the seals. I decided to bit the bullet and pay the price for the new windows. Being that I'm replacing everything else, I would hate for the windows to be the weak link. I'm building it out so I can take it off shore so it makes sense.

Hi All

There are seals available for Series I and II Vegas. This is new rubber, locking strip and an insertion tool.

Aluminium Frame Windows also available but they are a more expensive choice.
