Sealing plexiglass windows - where is Maine Sail?
I used the DC 795 from Rudy and DR marine on our 272 SL when replacing one side port(also from Rudy) with great success. I used the original cabin screw holes after filling them with epoxy, I also drilled the plexiglass holes larger than the screw size with a plexiglass drill bit I got from a local supplier. Rudy has great installation instructions available, but be aware that the DC 795 is messy. Dennis

I am surprised at your comments that butyl tape not working in Texas. It seems to work great in South Carolina. Maybe it is type or brand or maybe it was not butyl tape at all?
Butyl tape forms a gasset after it is exposed to air and heat. As it sets up it becomes like rubber. Maybe the original installation was done incorrectly. Butyl tape is a two step procedure. First is clean surface and install butyl tape and line up device to be seales with holes and tape and screw in enough to hold piece in place,
but do not tighen.
Wait 30 minutes for gasket to form, then tighten. Butyl tape in not known to melt in sun after installation. It is used extensively in motor homes, campers and vehicles.
This comment is interesting in that it refutes current job knowledge.
Also there is a one part urethane roofing sealant reputed to work very well for marine use above the waterline, NP-1.

It is not labeled for marine use, but I have used it and it works better than the high dollar brands that say marine. I do not use it below the water line.
Again, the butal tape should have worked if applied correctly. If you re-do project spend extra time cleaning both surfaces and ruff up both surfaces with sand paper to increase mechanical holding power of sealants.
