Hi all. This is my first posting. Last summer I purchased Vega 1454, Kalista. She was in rough shape but is looking better all the time. I hope to sail her home to Toronto from eastern Lake Ontario after the ice is out. Kalista has the original Albin 022 engine in all its green cast-iron glory . Although it had sat unused for a decade the engine started without me having to buy anything more than a couple of spark plugs, so I'm fully committed to it. Since then I've rebuilt the carberutor, cleaned out the fuel tank, replaced the water pump impellor and the fuel pump and added a supplementary fuel filter. Albin Motor have been great and now the engine is nearly reliable. I've been told I should be using high octane fuel, which makes sense to me. Any comments on that or any other recommendations for reliability? The combi seems fine so far. A year before I bought this boat someone else in Toronto was giving away two 022s for parts. I'm sorry I missed that. Any suggestions on an economical charge regulator to use in conjunction with the starter/generator? Of the various tasks on my list, one is replacing the window gaskets which are leaking and weeping black gunk (technical term) onto the deck. Anyone know of a source of window gasket replacements? Are there any generic ones which will fit the Vega? Anyone have some to sell? Thanks Carl
