On my 1985 Hunter 34 the windows have developed an exterior haze that I am having difficulty removing. I have tried hot soapy water and am reluctant to experiment with too many cleaners initially. The flip-up opening ports have small cracks, I assume from the sun, in addition to the haze and I have resigned myself to buying new replacement ports, but for the fixed windows are there any cleaning products/methods that will remove the haze?

Try Meguires products or Island Girl.
If you are not going to replace the windows right away, just try any of the products for that are made for plexiglass windows. If you are going to replace the fixed windows you should call Mark Plastics in So. California (find their number in the archives).

Check out a product called Plexus. It was developed for cleaning acrylic aircraft windows and works really well. I first saw a review for it in a motorcycle magazine and the editors gave it good marks. I've used it now and it does clean really well and leaves a protective film that seems to keep dirt from collecting. I've only been able to find it at motorcycle shops. Jim Covey

Oh those plastic windoes
My windows got so bad I finally used Mequires Color restorer. I first cleaned them well, than wipped on Mequires Color Restorer with a clean cotton towel and buffed dry. Windows look like new! I have now done this three seasons.

This Spring I cleaned and polished the ports on my 1981 H33. I used Meguires, buying all three formulas through West Marine. I was amazed at the results. I took a before and after photo and spliced them together without retouching anything. For many years now, I have been using Brasso to remove scratches on amost any type of plastic. Just put some on a piece of soft cloth wrapped around the end of your finger(s) and rub in a circular motion 'til scratches are removed. Finnish with a straight grain motion, then polish with a clean soft cloth. All the windows on our H33 were hazy when we first got her. They're clear now.
