The other thing you want to remember is you should never leave the load on the windlass when you are at anchor. If you have all chain out, then you need a snubber to remove any load from the windlass. If you have reached the "End of your Chain" you should tie off the rode to your cleat.

I think this will work, cutting the front of the anchor locker lid off about 8-9" & moving the existing hinge further aft, so the back part of the lid will still operate as usuall, notching the lid & side panels of the locker for a 2"x8" PT
lumber mounting the winch to that along with fiberglass work to make the forward part solid, thu bolting the 2"x8" into the deck in 4 places, glassing it in place also. The existing anchor locker will be for my extra anchor, chain & rode, the winch ( Dolphin 1000) will feed the line down thu a 4" PVC pipe into
the bottom of the hull, forward of the "V" berth & below, the existing hatch under the berth will let me install a 12v battery, bilge pump & heavy screen mat to catch the rode & chain, any water will be pumped overboard, the PVC will protact the fresh water hoses, letting the rode accumalate below, both floor switchs & cockpit switch will control the winch, a limit switch on the anchor roller will stop the "UP" action when the anchor gets up automatic.

Legend 35.5 anchor windless

I installed an anchorman 1000 on my 35.5 with a remote controler at the helm. When retreiving the anchor I would go to the bow and hand coil the rode until I hit the last 25 ft of chain( the anchor was most often still holding ) then I would retreive the balance of the rode (Chain) via the remote controler. There was ample room for that much chain to be retreived in the locker. If I had enough crew I would stay at the bow and hand coil the entire rode. Less than perfect but much better than breaking your back bringing in an anchor.
The more research I do regarding installation of an anchor windless on my Legend 35.5 the more I conclude that it just may not work properly, despite the fact that others have made this addition. This is due to 1) the size/shape of the anchor locker - a vertical windless requires a fall of about 18", and 2) the off center (to stbd) path of the chain/rode off the bow roller - A horizontal windless requires a centered alignment. I would appreciate any information and suggestions regarding installation as well as recommendations about specific brands and models.

Re: Legend 35.5 anchor windless

were you able to find any easy wiring route between the cockpit and the anchor locker ? I have heard there might be some sort of conduit running below the floor, but I haven't found it yet, I see wires from the fresh water indicator going below the water tank, probably into the sub floor, I also have a TV cable from the anchor locker to the AC/DC panel, I plan on
pulling a string with that for future wires, but I still have to get to the cockpit somewhere from the power panel. Maybe a route along the rub rail behind the shower/head area.
