I have a Hunter 340 and I want to install a manual windlass in the anchor locker. Does anyone know if there is enough fall for the chain in this boat? I just hate to get involved in the wiring of an electric windlass.
Thanks in advance!

Hello-

My father had a manual windlass on his Islander 36, and I used to hate cranking that thing up every time we moved from point A to point B. Our H340 is equipped with an electric windlass that I wouldn't trade for anything (well, almost anything). The wiring is fairly straightforward, just be certain to use adequate guage wire and proper circuit protection. The only issue we encounter when raising the anchor is that the chain has a tendency to pile up directly under the windlass. If I don't shove the pile forward into the locker every 8-10 seconds, it tries to jam up the capstain. A minor inconvenience, and really not a big deal as long as you're aware of it. I would be happy to send you some pics of our set-up if you think they might help.

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to contact me directly.

I have had my fair share of hauling up anchors that when I ordered my boat, the 1st option is electric windlass, no if no but. It'll save your back from aching and arms from stretching.
