Invited to expound on my pending windlass project on another thread, here is the windlass I bought:

My buying experience with Don's Marine Salvage was excellent and I can tell you firsthand they will entertain reasonable offers. The purchase included the windlass and a reversing solenoid. Additional items required are a main disconnect and overcurrent protection and up/down switches.

I found the disconnect/overcurrent panel at Minney's in Newport Beach, brand new for $50 (what a deal and they still have more). Here's where I chose to mount it, visible from the helm:

Substantial modification to the anchor well lid will be required and as of right now I'm still in the head scratching phase. I intend to pipe the all chain rode to the area under the V berth via a PVC conduit.

Where are U going to mount the windlass motor, inside the anchor well?
I wonder what gauge of wire U need to power it. Let me know how that goes,
I've always wanted a windlass, & so does my herniated back!

I'm in the middle of another project right now but here's the general plan:

The windlass (already in hand) is a vertical capstan type with the motor below deck. I'm hoping to fashion an angled mount inside the anchor well like shown on the C-34 site with the gypsy in the wet area and the motor in the dry area beneath. Based on its amperage I'm planning on wiring with #4 battery cable.

When I get around to the project I'll post plenty of pics.
